Here’s a nice example of a Luftwaffe Officers Visor Cap by Clemens Wagner. The visor is constructed of quality blue/grey wool material. The wool is in beautiful condition only showing light age toning. The center-band is constructed out of a black mohair that is horizontally ribbed and interwoven. To the crown edge and both the top and bottom edges of the center-band is bright, interwoven silver-aluminum piping. The front center of the cap has a hand embroidered, second pattern Luftwaffe eagle in bright silver-aluminum wire threads with bullion accents on a blue/grey wool base. The eagle has been handstitched to the cap. Below the eagle, to the center-band, is a Luftwaffe winged wreath and corkage that is constructed out of hand embroidered silver-aluminum wire threads with bullion above a black wool base. It has one wee 2mm nip to the wool revealing a red backing. It has also been hand stitched to the cap. The cap has an interwoven, twisted, silver-aluminum chin cord which is secured to the cap at the sides with two small silver washed pebbled aluminum buttons. The chin cord has some loos threads and damage to the left side. The peak is constructed out of a black lacquered vulcanfiber. There are grey scuffs to the top. The underside is green. The exterior edge is 50% lost to the underside and there is a small 5mm hit. The interior is lined in a tan rayon/silk material with a brown ersatz leather sweat-band. The sweatband shows a pressed maker mark reading: “CW” (Clemens Wagner), “Wirklich Stirn-u. Schläfen druck frei” (Really forehead and temples pressure free) “D.R.P. u. D.R.G.M.” (Deutsches Reichspatent and Deutsches Reiches Gebrauchs Musterschutz). Underneath the maker mark to the interior is another maker mark in an oval black ink which reads: “Clemens Wagner Erstklassig” which surrounds a date that reads: “MAI ??”. 98%+ of the original stitching remains in place. The top celluloid sweat diamond is lost to time. The base is maker marked “Verkaufsabteilung der Luftwaffe Berlin SW 68 Puttkamerstr 16/18” (Luftwaffe Sales Department, Berlin Puttkamer 16/18) , “Erstklassig” (Frist-Class) in black print. A great looking visor cap that shows quality workmanship!
