A good piece! The blade on this one looks good. The dark and crisp "Tiegelwerk Riemberg. Schl." / "RZM M7/81 1940" dual maker marks are beautifully executed! The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is tightly secured. The blade rates a solid Exc+. It shows heavy age grey/spotting throughout along with the common surface scratches/runner marks throughout. The original black pebbled leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based black painted scabbard is in good shape. It is original and has been post-war-re-painted. Whoever re-painted it did a wonderful job. It continues to remain completely dent free. The brown scabbard leather looks good! It has thread puncture holes to the interior that are in the shape of a square. The horizontal leather that is holding the snap is fasten by stitching, not a rivet like we usually see. IMO this is a period repair, first the top rivet broke off, then it was stitched to the lower piece, then stitched back in the correct place. The snap continues to work well. The zinc-alloy based nickel-silver plated hilt is in good shape! It continues to retain 85%+ plating coverage. The black bakelite checkered grip plates have a wee hit to the obverse and some glue reminisce to the reverse. They are both tightly secured by two steel rivets. The HJ diamond shows minor damage, yet retains 90%+ of tis enamel work! A rare maker a good piece.
