Here we have an early Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern! The 2nd Class War Merit Cross with Swords was awarded to soldiers for exceptional service in battle above and beyond the call of duty. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed and lacquered. It depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / "1939" (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring. Accompanying the award is 9 1/2 inches of black, white and red rayon ribbon. Beautiful bronze wash remains intact. The award measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. A great one!
