VFV Membership Badge and Service Badge (Necklace) 1914

Here's a great little two-piece Imperial Women's Red Cross VFV Group. The Service Badge had lost its ribbon and a chain necklace (likely post-war) was added. The VFV (Vaterländische Frauenverein) was the German Women's Association for the care and assistance for the wounded in the war. The membership badge is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed, black burnished and contains red enamel work. The obverse features the red cross emblem above "VFV" and "1914", which is all above a smooth oval base that is surrounded by a pebbled border and is flanked with berries and laurel leaves and is all above a pattée style cross. The reverse is maker marked: "A. Stübbe Berlin C" (Alfred Stübbe, Berlin). It has a soldered on catch, hinge and pin assembly. A nice piece! Accompanying it is a VFV service badge that has lost its ribbon and been modified to a necklace. The obverse is the same as the pin yet is encircled with a blackened "Eiserv die Zeit - Eisern der Wille" (Iron the Time - Iron the Will). The reverse is also maker marked: "A. Stübbe Berlin C" (Alfred Stübbe, Berlin). To the top is an integral loop and ring. The chain is broken. It measures approximately 1 1/8 inches in diameter. A nice little rare group!
