Here we have a Transitional Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Hartkopf & Co. of Solingen. The ricassoed blade on this one looks great. The dual “Hartkopf & Co Solingen” / “RZM M7/40” maker marks are dark, crisp and beautifully executed! The majority of the crossgrain remains visible. The tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates an Exc+/Exc++. The blade has a wiggle to it, it shows surface scratches and age grey/spotting throughout. The original blackened leather buffer pad is perfect. The steel based black anodized scabbard looks great. It has minor oxidization spotting yet hold a nice dark finish and remains completely dent free! The folded black leather strap is in nice condition, only minor crazing throughout. It retains all of its rivets and the snap continues to work very well! The zinc alloy based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 85%+ of its thin plated finish. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are in near perfect shape and are secured by two steel rivets. The HJ diamond is original and may be a replacement. It retains 97%+ of its enamel! A nice example!
