Here we have a Mint example of a Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold by Hauptmunzamt of Wien. The Gold Wound Badge, instituted September 1st 1939, was awarded for five or more times wounded, loss of limbs, total blindness, "loss of manhood", or severe brain damage via hostile action. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded and finished in a lacquer coating. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M35 pattern helmet, which is above two crossed broad swords. This then lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The full back reverse is maker marked: "30" (Hauptmunzamt, Wien) and has the appropriate soldered on catch, hinge and round wire pin. All components are non-magnetic and remain well-working condition. The gold gild is stunning! The badge measures approximately 1 3/4 inches high by 1 1/2 inches wide. It doesn't get better than this!
