Minty Condor Legion Gold Wound Badge

A minty unissued Condor Legion Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold by Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen. Condor Legion Wound Badge was instituted on May 22, 1939 and was awarded to German volunteers who fought in the 1936-1939 Spanish War of Liberation. The Gold version was awarded to those who were wounded five or more times wounded, lost a limbs, had total blindness, “loss of manhood”, or severe brain damage via hostile action. The Condor Legion Wound Badge in Gold was never awarded, as no one qualified for its award criteria. It is constructed out of a two piece die stamped cupal base that has been gold gilded and finished in a lacquer coating. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M16 pattern helmet, which is above two crossed broad swords. This then lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The full back reverse has a soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on tombak rectangular wire catch and tombak flat pin assembly. All of the components are non-magnetic and remain in well working condition. The badge measures approximately 1 ¾ inches tall by 1 ½ inches wide. A very rare and superb piece!
