A great piece never been in a collection straight from the Vets family! The blade on this one looks good. The dark and crisp acid etched “Meine Ehre heist Treue” motto is beautifully executed! There are fingerprint stains throughout but it has a perfect tip and traces of crossgrain. There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued from the factory. The blade rates an Exc/Exc+. The steel based, black anodized scabbard body on this one looks great! There are some small dots of oxidation but certainly the finish is better than 98%. Most of the time you see these all nicked up from the chain, but not this one! It shows only minor spotting throughout yet continues to remain completely dent-free! The steel based, nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings look good. They retain 90%+ plating! The loss it exclusively to the reverse lower. The ball retains a great round shape. All six screws remain intact. The chain is the later type II plated variation that is steel based and nickel silver plated. The chain links show wonderful detail to the skulls and SS runes! It’s really something when you can see each individual teeth to the skulls! The correct first upper link is clearly “SS” proof marked. The clip looks great and continues to work well, it is a bit oxidized to the reverse. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The alloy based, nickel-silver plated crossguards are in fine shape. They show the common bubbling and plating loss yet retain 98%+ coverage. The black hardwood grip had some chips and flakes, quite typical for SS Daggers. I decided to have these professionally restored, and He did a great job! As always guys I share all restoration work done. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed with an excellent fit! The SS roundel retains 97% of its enamel and has a perfect fit! A great piece that I am happy to offer to the collecting community!
