Here we have a Panzerkampfabzeichen mit Einsatzzahl 25 in Silber by Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen. The Grade II Panzer Assault Badge was awarded to recognize those who had taken part in 25 days of combat (engagements). The silver class was presented to tank commanders, gunners or radio operators who went into battle in armored vehicles. It is a three piece (wreath & eagle, tank & grass (riveted together) and number shield) die struck zinc based construction that has been silver washed. The obverse depicts a centrally placed panzer tank above a grass/log field which is beneath a national closed winged eagle clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. This is all above a soldered on zinc based gilded and blackened rectangular “25” number shield and is all surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath. The hollow-back reverse is correctly maker marked “G.B.” (Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen). It also features the correct steel; soldered on rectangular plate round wire catch, sheet metal hinge, round wire pin and tombak rivets. The details throughout are superb! Beautiful blackening and silver wash! It measures approximately 2 7/16 inches tall by 1 7/8 inches wide. See page 740 of Philippe De Bock’s Vol. II Panzer Assault Badge textbook. A great example well deserving of your collection!
