Here we have a very rare screwback Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse (Wiederholungsspange) 1939 by Petz & Lorenz of Unterreichenbach. The 1st Class Spange to the Iron Cross (Repetition Clasp) 1939 was awarded to those who has already received the imperial 1st Class Iron Cross 1914 and earned the 1st Class Iron Cross again in WWII. It is constructed out of a die-struck zinc base that has been silver washed and lacquered. The obverse features a National open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons, above a trapezoid bannered “1939”. The full back reverse features a centrally soldered on male screw back piece which holds a steel washer and a nickel silver square not that has two soldered on loops. The threads on the male screw back piece are stripped and it broke off and was glued back on so be careful with it! It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. You’re not buying this piece because of condition but rarity!
