Rating a 10 out of 10 on the McSarr rarity scale, sometimes rarity trumps condition! A decent early example at a fair price! The blade on this one has lots of scuffs, evidence of cleaning or buffing and hard cleaning. It has a perfect fit and perfect tip! The blade rates an VG. The steel based undented brown scabbard’s anodized finish is nice with just some surface oxidation. The solid nickel scabbard fittings are intact with all their screws, the ball is NOT banged in. There are of course wee bumps and evidence of use. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and it closes with a snap! The reverse of the lower crossguard is quite correctly Gruppe stamped “Wm”. The grip / crossguard fits are very good. The brown hardwood has cracks and a flake at the top crossguard fit. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed! The SA roundel has a perfect fit and retains 99% of its enamel. A decent example of a McSarr 10.
