Well these always turn heads. This one was just recently purchased from a Canadian collector. Blade is a nice unmarked example. It has nice crossgrain with no excuses. The motto is well executed with a grey frosting. It rates Exc++/NM. Blade to crossguard fit is excellent. Original crossguards are the nickel plated type and are in near perfect condition. Grip is nicely fit example that has normal bruises and rubs from period wear. The grip is crack and chip free!!!! Solid nickel eagle is lightly worn and properly inlaid. The runes retain 100% of enamel. Dent free scabbard is anodized with 100% of the finish intact as well as some factory lacquer! The ball has some wear and retains its correct shape. The chain is a painted Type I. These plated chains maintain excellent definition and every detail is there. The link holes are the squared off type as you would expect and all the connectors show their original solder. The correct link is deeply SS stamped to the reverse. The skulls and the runes show fine detail right down to the teeth. The spring clip functions fine terminating at a nice black loop. The plating has lifting and I suspect someone at some point cleaned it hard removing all the plating from the back of several inks as well as the front of the upper fitting. The center fitting is secured by one screw, the normal practice when a painted scabbard was employed. Scabbard fits perfectly with a pleasing snap. Comes with a period portepee.
