Here we have a personalized 1st Model (1934/35) Luftwaffe Dagger (Fliegerdolch) dedicated to Karl Ladner. The plated blade on this one looks good. The etched "SMF Solingen" maker mark is nicely executed! The platting gives this one a mirror like finish! The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point! The blade rates a Exc++! It shows runner marks and a bit of age. The original blue pebbled leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The scabbard body is steel based and covered in a blue pebbled leather. It has pressure marks and scuffs throughout. It retains full coverage despite the wear. The silvered steel based scalloped scabbard fittings show the same wear. The upper is Jeweller engraved, "Karl Ladner 9./Kampf- geschwader Hindenburg 1". The fittings are tightly secured with all five headless screws! The aluminum chain has 10 lower and 6 upper ringlets that ends at a well working "Ges. Gesch. OLC" marked clip. The hilt is zinc based and appears to have absorbed most of the plating. The grip leather remains in excellent condition sporting 3 twisted brass wire wrap. This one comes with a frayed but original portepee. So I did a quick google search on this guy from my research I find he was shot down in 1944. "LADNER, Karl. 01.09.39 Oblt., in A./Fl.Ausb.Rgt. 62. 01.04.42 promo to Hptm. 13.04.43 Hptm., in 9. (Eis.)/KG 1 WIA - Ju 88 A-4 force-landed at Tours due to engine failure. 14.08.43 Hptm., appt Staka 1./KG 6 (MIA 20.07.44 - in Ju 188 A-2 shot down over the Orne Estuary in Normandy). 01.08.44 officially listed as MIA." You will find more if you look. Fairly rare to find a researchable 1st luft. dagger.
