A very rare Zivil-Flugzeugführerabzeichen. Instituted April 1st 1936, the Civil Pilot Badge was awarded to civilian aircraft pilots who were employed in the Lufthansa airline / Luftwaffe and were a pilot or flight instructor for at least 1 year. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base that has been bronze washed and contain blue enamel work. The obverse features a blue winged mobile swastika. The full back is maker marked “C.E. Juncker Berlin SW” and has a soldered on round wire catch, barrel hinge and rounded pin. All of the components are non-magnetic and continue to function well. The two tips of the wings show some enamel loss yet 95% of its enamel remains intact. It measures 80.4mm wide and weighs 14.7g. These instructors would have been training the early clandestine Luftwaffe members and with the outbreak of WWII all civilian pilots who were fit for service would have been enlisted in the Luftwaffe. A rare badge missing from most collections!
