Dr. Fritz Todt Prize in Silver

A 2nd Class Dr. Fritz Todt Prize in Silver! In honor of Dr. Fritz Todt’s Prize (Leader of the Organization Todt) memory, Hitler instituted the Dr. Fritz Todt Prize on November 12th 1943, as an award to industrial inventors/civil/engineering personnel who had made a significant contribution in furthering the war effort. The award is constructed out of a die struck zinc alloy base that has been silver washed and chemically blackened. The obverse features a large closed winged eagle perched above a three step pedestal that reads: “Dr. Fritz Todt” and has a mobile swastika that is surrounded by a cogwheel to the bottom. The full back reverse features the appropriate soldered on oval plate c-shaped nickel-silver catch, soldered on oval plate steel barrel hinge and tapered pin. There is a crack to the pin just by the hinge. The award displays beautiful detail! It measures approximately 2 5/8 inches tall by 1 5/8 inches wide. The pin, hinge and catch assembly are typical of Zimmermann. Some of the silver finish has been absorbed by the zinc. A rare piece deserving of a good home!
