A Luftwaffe Frontflug-Spange für Nacht-Jäger in Gold. The Short Range Night Fighter Clasp in Gold was instituted August 14th 194s and awarded for 110 combat missions. It is constructed out of two pieces of die struck tombak / nickel-silver that has been gold gilded / blackened and black painted. The obverse depicts a centrally placed blackened upward pointing ‘flying arrow’ that is surrounded by a black painted laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a stagnant swastika and is flanked by four round cut outs and two nine piece oak leaf clusters. The semi-full back reverse shows a recessed lathed portion with an off centered rivet, a soldered on nickel-silver flatwire catch, soldered on nickel-silver barrel hinge and sturdy tapered nickel-silver pin. It displays wonderful detail throughout and the gilded highlights are superb! It measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch tall. A beautiful piece!
