A Condor Legion - Militärmedaille. The Spanish Military Medal was instituted July 1st 1918 and was awarded for heroic acts in the face of the enemy. This variation was for EM’s and NCO's. It is constructed out of a die struck silvered buntmetall base. The round shaped obverse features Queen Isabella II, holding a broad sword and a leafed branch, beside a lion head that is encircled by roses all in front of a rising sun, above “Al Merito En Campana”. The reverse features the Coat of arms under Franco. Both the front and back are encircled by a half oak leaf half laurel leaf and berry wreath that is flanked by two rampant lions and has a castle to the top. To the very top of the award is an integral oval wire loop that holds 4 inches of white, red and yellow silk/rayon ribbon. To the top of the ribbon is the typical Spanish rectangular bar that has a well working pin assembly to the reverse. The award measures 1 5/8 inches in diameter. Many variations of this award exist. This is the highest Spanish bravery award.
