An Italian Memorial Medal to the German-Italian Russia Campaign 1941. Intended to enhance the “Pact of Steel” between the Italian and German alliance. It is constructed out of a bronze base that has been bronze washed. The round shaped obverse features Adolf Hitler’s bust behind Benito Mussolini’s bust, both in helmets, above “1941” and surrounded by “La Guerra Continua E Continuera Fino Alla Vittoria 1941” (The War Continues and Continues Until The Victory). The obverse is designer marked: “B. Locatelli” (Bruno Locatelli), just below Mussolini’s neck. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory of Samothrace, with sword in hand, on top of a stagnant swastika and Fasces symbol above: “Due Rivoluzioni Due Popoli Una Vittoria” (Two Revolutions Two People a Victory). The award measures 1 ¼ in diameter. To the top is an integral downward pointing triangular loop that holds 5 inches of folded over and stitched ribbon. The ribbon features the German national colors, blue and the Italian national colors. It is in beautiful condition. An extremely rare award!
