Luftwaffe Generalleutnant W. Weese’s Service Tunic

Wolfgang Jul. Gust. Weese’s (1890-1961) Luftwaffe Generalleutnant Service Tunic (Dienstbluse). The photo features Weese in his Generals Tunic prior to being promoted to General Lieutenant (April 1st 1943). It is constructed from a fine quality blue-gray wool exterior, with a grey silk-rayon blend interior lining. The front of the tunic bears four pleated pockets, each closed by a pebbled gold gilt metal (magnetic) button. The placket is closed with four pebbled gold gilt metal (magnetic) buttons and features a 2nd Class Iron Cross ribbon to the top button hole. All of the buttons are matching and marked by the manufacturer: F. W. Assmann & Sohne of Lüdenscheid. The French style cuffs are held securely in place by a two pieces of stitching, one to the front and rear of each sleeve. To the right breast is a stitched on fine quality hand embroidered gold bullion 2nd pattern Luftwaffe Generals eagle on a blue grey wool backing. The collar features two machine stitched on Generalleutnant rank collar tabs that are constructed of buckram base, covered in a white wool with hand embroidered gold bullion piping that features two gulls surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath. The “sew on” type Generalleutnant rank shoulder boards feature a white wool base with an interwoven silver and gold bullion Russian Braid thread underneath a silvered pip and gilded metal (magnetic) button. Above the top left pocket are five stitched loops with six more on/beneath the left pocket. The top five secure the nine piece ribbon bar which features, from left to right; Imperial 2nd Class Iron Cross, Prussian Order of the Crown with Swords, Baden Order of the Zähringer Lion with the Crown and Swords, Honor Cross of the World War 1914/1918 with Swords, Luftwaffe 4 and 12 Year Long Service, Anschluss Commemorative Medal, Sudetenland Commemorative Medal and the Memel Commemorative Medal. The three awards are not included. The interior features a silky smooth rayon blend material, that is met at the arms by a white and grey pinstripe liner. Below the hang loop is the tailors tag which reads: “Karl Fuchs Karlsruhe Kaiserstr. 180”. There is one interior dagger hanger and clip and one pocket, that features the attributed tag to the interior, which reads: “Herr: Generalleutnant Wolfgang Weese No: 156 Datum 06.04.44 (6th of April 1944)”. The tunic measures approximately 48 cm across the shoulders, a 64 cm sleeve length and 70 cm to the spine. Previously sold by Helmut Weitze. It is a wonderfully preserved tunic that is in an overall beautiful condition.
