Imperial Honor Goblet for the Victor in Air Combat

A Ehrenbecher für den Sieger im Luftkampfe. The Imperial Honor Goblet for the Victor in Air Combat, instituted in 1915, was generally awarded for the first aerial combat victory and as the war progressed, later requirements increased the number of downed aerial opponents. An estimated 2411 Imperial Honor Goblets were awarded. It is constructed out of hand hammered silver. The cup portion features; an octagonal relief of two eagles fighting in front of a mountain scene, all above a hammer background. The stem displays a bordered “Dem Sieger im Luftkampfe” along with the hallmarked crescent, crown, imperial eagle and “800”. The underside is stamped “34” to the edge and it also features a Prussian style eagle surrounded by: “Chef Des Feldflugwesens” to the center. It has beautifully patinaed with age to an elegant black. It measures 7 5/8 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches in diameter. Included is: a reproduction case. In my opinion this is the most beautiful one on the market today…
