Cased Order of the German Eagle 3rd Class by Godet

A Verdienstkreuz des Ordens vom Deutscgen Adler III. Stufe im Etui 1937-39 by Gebrüder Godet & Co. of Berlin. The Order of Merit of the German Eagle, was instituted May 1st 1937 (Reorganized April 29th 1939 and December 27th 1943), and was awarded by Hitler to foreign nationals who had made a meritorious contribution to the German Reich on the recommendation of the Reich Minister for Foreign Affairs. The 3th Class was awarded to the following ranks: Oberst, Kapitän zur See, Oberstleutnant, Fregattenkapitän. It is constructed out of a multi-piece die struck 900 silver base with chemical burnishing and white enamel work. The obverse features a Maltese style white cross that has four national eagles (Hoheitszeichen) between each of the crosses arms. The reverse is the same as the obverse, without the swords. To the top is a fan and ball loop which holds a “900” (silver content designation) and “21” (Gebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin) marked suspension ring that hold a tri-color (red, white and black) rayon ribbon that has a stitched on well working brass gilded pin assembly, that remain in well working condition. This is in wonderful condition with beautiful enamel work and detail throughout! The cross measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide and tall. It comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is your typical wood and pressed cardboard covered in a red simulated leather. Top features a gold national eagle emblem and border. Interior reads, in gold: “Verdienstkreuz III. Stufe des Ordens vom Deutscgen Adler”. Hinge and closure clasp work well. The exterior of the case is has a scuff to the bottom but that’s it. It measures 2 ¾ x 4 7/8 x 1. A great assembly!
