A Freikorps (Weimar Period) - 2. Form Schlageter-Schild Kämpfer by Paul Küst of Berlin. This commemorative badge was established by the Third Reich Schlageter-Gedächtnis Bund e.V. on the 10th anniversary of the execution of Albert Leo Schlageter of the Schlageter Memorial League. This could be purchased by any Freikorps member along with the battle honor clasp(s) they were involved in. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed, chemically blackened and lacquered. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed Latin/Christian cross above a bordered “Schlageter” and two crossed broad swords that is surrounded by a half laurel and berry wreath, half oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. There are three battle honor clasps “Grenzschutz”, “Spartakus” and “Rhein / Ruhr” and three associated dates “1919/20”, “1919/23” and “1923/24”. The full back reverse is marked: “Paul Küst Abzeichen – U. Ordenfabrik Berlin S W 19 Ges. Gesch. 101.”. It also features all 12 prongs and a vertically soldered on rectangular plate pin assembly. It measures 1 7/8 inches wide by 2 3/8 inches tall. A wonderfully conditioned and patinaed example fit for your collection! Rare to see three clasps!
