An Erinnerungsmedaille für die Olympischen Spiele 1936 im Etui. The commemorative medal was sold by all banks, savings banks, credit cooperatives and the like, as well as by the “Official Distribution Point the Olympic Memorial Pageant”. The bronze could be purchased for 3 RM and the silver for 6 RM, there was no gold version. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base that has been black burnished. The round shaped obverse features the Olympic bell of the Olympic bell tower, surrounded by “Olympische Spiele Berlin MCMXXVI”. The reverse depicts the Greek Goddess Nike holding a laurel leaf and berry stem in one hand and a laurel wreath crown in the other, surrounded by “Zur Ehre des Vaterlandes - Zum Ruhm des Volkes” (German - To the Glory of the Fatherland - To the Glory of the People). The bottom edge is inscribed “Bayersiches Hauptmünzamt” (Bavarian State Mint). It measures 1 7/16 inches in diameter. The coin comes housed in its original cardstock based covered in a pearl simulated leather (leatherette) exterior. The top features an impressed gold foil “1936” and the Olympic rings surrounded by an exterior boarder. It measures 2 inches square by 7/16 of an inch wide. It is in gorgeous condition!
