Type 1a - Wehrmacht Cholm Ärmelschild. Instituted July 1st 1941, The Cholm Shield was awarded to all members of the Wehrmacht who honorably took part in the defense of Cholm inside the encirclement. It is constructed out of a die stamped cupal base that has been silver washed and attached with two prongs to a steel plate hidden by green wool and a lacquered tan paper backing. The shield shaped obverse depicts a large closed winged national eagle clutching an Iron Cross in its talons above “Cholm 1942” above a green wool backing. The reverse features a lacquered paper backing. It measures approximately 65mm tall by 40mm wide. A rare piece!
