A Flak-Kampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe im Etui by Adolf Scholze of Grünwald a. N. “Ball Hinge”. The Luftwaffe Flak Badge was awarded to those who had participated in 3 air defense actions (with a registered kill) or 5 air defense actions (regardless of a kill) or to the battery commander if half of their troops had been awarded the badge. It is constructed out of a two-piece die struck zinc base that has been silver washed, chemically blackened and brennlack coated. The obverse depicts an anti-aircraft gun that is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath and is below/behind a Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a swastika in one of its talons. The reverse of the badge correctly displays; the crimped on tombak ball hinge, crimped on flat wire catch and round wire pin. All of the components are in well working condition! It measures approximately 2 ½ inches tall by 1 7/8 inches wide. The eagle has a small wiggle and there is a 2mm crack to the reverse beside the hinge. It comes housed in the issue case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained blue leather (Lederimitat). To the front is a round plated steel spring loaded push button. To the back is a steel, staggered, piano hinge. To the very top in pressed gold foil Gothic style script it reads: “Flak-Kampf-Abz.”. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a royal blue spray on fibrous felt material that outlines a pin, hinge and catch assembly. The interior top is covered in a blue lined satin above a pad. It shows minor ageing throughout. The case measures approximately 3 inches wide by 3 3/16 inches deep and 1 inch thick. A wonderful assembly!
