A very decent example for the 2018 MAX! The bright cleaned blade on this one looks good. The crisp acid etched "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" motto is faint yet beautifully executed! Traces of crossgrain remains visible. The tip comes to a perfect point and it continues to hold a nice and tight fit! There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued from the factory. The blade rates an Exc+. It has been cleaned. The steel based black anodized scabbard body on this one looks great. It has some oxidization spotting throughout yet holds a nice and dark finish and remains completely dent free! The steel based nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings look great! They remain nice and bright, with just the common spotting matching the rest of the scabbard. The ball has taken a wee bump but generally retains it's original shape. All six screws remain intact. The chain is the later Type II variation. The chain links show crisp detail to the skulls and SS runes! It's really something when you look at the skulls and you can see each individual tooth! The correct reverse first upper link is clearly "SS" proof marked. A few of the connestors have been repaired/replaced, in what looks to be a period repair. The connectors were the weakest link so to speak on the type II's so we do see this from time to time. The clip continues to work well. The scabbard to crossguard fit is fine. The zinc-alloy based, plated crossguards are in great matching the scabbard perfectly! The black hardwood grip has a wee flake to the lower right obverse. There are a few common pressure marks. The nickel eagle is beautifully detailed. The SS roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel! A great piece at a great price!
