A Treuedienst-Ehrenzeichen 1.Stufe für 40 Jahre 1938 by Deschler & Sohn of München. The 40 Year Faithful Service Cross was awarded to all officials, employees, and laborers at any level of the public service (local, regional or national) who completed 40 years of service. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded and contains black enamel work. The obverse features a pebbled pattée style cross that has an oak leaf wreath visible through the corners and a centrally placed black static swastika / “Fur Treue Dienste” (For Faithful Service) to the reverse. To the top is a soldered loop and ring which holds approximately 3 1/2 inches of folded blue rayon ribbon and a stitched on well working brass based gilded pin assembly. The award measures approximately 1 5/8 inches wide and tall. The gold gilt wonderfully shines in the light and the enamel work is 100%! The award comes housed in its original case! The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated, grained red leather. The very top features a golden wreathed "40". To the front is a round gilded steel, spring loaded closure button. To the back is a gilded steel staggered bar hinge. The hinge and the closure button continue to function well. The interior top lid is lined in pearl satin and has an underlying pad. It is maker marked “Deschler & Sohn München”. The bottom interior of the case is made of a red velvet covered cardboard along with white cardboard to the edges. The interior satin hinge is torn. The case measures approximately 4 inches long by 1 15/16 inches wide by ¾ inches thick. The case shows minor scuffs throughout. An awesome display piece!
