Rare Unissued Steel - Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber by Sohni, Heubach & Co. of Idar-Oberstein. The Silver Infantry Assault Badge was awarded to foot infantrymen who had taken part in combat action on different days and met the required award criteria. It is constructed out of a die struck, steel base that has been silver washed. The oval shaped obverse depicts a rifle and bayonet below a Heer closed winged eagle clutching a mobile swastika within its talons. This is all surrounded by an acorn and oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The hollow back reverse correctly displays a soldered on sheet metal hinge, soldered on oval plate round wire catch and a round wire pin. They all remain in well working condition. minor spotting. It comes in its original issue lacquered paper. It measures approximately 2 7/16 inches tall by 1 7/8 inches wide. Gorgeous!
