A Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern by 127. The 2nd Class War Merit Cross with Swords was awarded to soldiers for exceptional service in battle above and beyond the call of duty. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy base that has been bronze washed, with the bronze being fully absorbed over the years. It depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is an integral loop and “127” maker marked ring which holds 4 1/4 inches of black, white and red rayon ribbon. The award measures 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. A rare maker mark!
