"By order of (OTB43, No153 II) 24th Sept 1943 a pennant for the destruction of an enemy ship by units of the coastal defense was instituted. A triangular pennant was awarded for the destruction of a ship up to and including the size of a destroyer and a rectangular pennant with a cut out (swallow tail) was awarded for the destruction of cruisers and above. There a wee holes and minor soil. The pennants were awarded to units of the coastal artillery and anti-aircraft artillery units on board ships (for the destruction of ships not aircraft). In the latter case the units were on board auxiliary ships of the navy or merchant ships under the command of the navy but not crews of flak guns on board warships. It was also awarded to army and air force units of the coastal defense if these were under the tactical command of the navy." This example is in great shape! Measures approx 20" in length.
