A Cased Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille 1936 by L/13 - Paul Meybauer of Berlin. The German Olympic Memorial Medal was instituted July 31st 1936 and was awarded for services rendered to the 1936 Olympic Games. It is a constructed out of a die stamped silver-alloy base. The round shaped obverse features a German national eagle (with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons) in front of a pedestal that has the five Olympic rings to the top and at the bottom the eagle is flanked by “1936” (19 - left, 36 - right). The reverse depicts the script: “Für Verdienstvolle Mitarbeit Bei Den Olympischen Spielen 1936” (For Meritorious Collaboration at the Olympic Games 1936) above a four piece oak leaf and acorn cluster. The bottom of the rim is stamped “L/13”. It’s quite rare to find these maker marked! To the top is a soldered on loop and ring which holds 3 inches of folded red, white and black rayon ribbon. The pin assembly is lost to time. It measures 1 7/16 inches in diameter. The award comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard with a simulated, grained, white, leather covering. To the top is a pressed gold gilded Olympic rings and exterior thin line border. The interior top lid is lined in a gray silk and has an underlying pad. The bottom interior of the case is covered in a light grey velvet and outlines the award, ring and pin. To the front is a white painted “mushroom head” style spring loaded closure button. To the back is a gilded steel staggered piano hinge. The hinge and the closure button continue to function well. It measures approximately 4 3/8 inches long by 2 9/16 inches wide by 7/8 of an inch thick. A great assembly!
