A good piece with a Wedding inscription. The blade on this one looks fine. The acid etched "Alles für Deutschland" motto and "Wagner & Lange Solingen" maker mark are both look great. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a nice point! This blade rates a solid Exc++. It has been cleaned and still retains good crossgrain. The steel based, brown anodized scabbard looks great! It continues to hold 90% of its original factory lacquer and remains completely dent free. The solid nickel scabbard fittings look great. I was grateful to be able to get a German grammar teacher to translate,
"I believe that the full inscription would read :’ zur Erinnerung an Deine Hochzeit von Deinen Sturmkameraden des Nachrichten Sturmes 2 Brigade 77 22.9.34’ , or in English ‘in memory of your wedding from your company comrades of signals company 2 Brigade 77 22.9.34’.
Interestingly, I looked in my copy of the SA Standortverzeichnis for 1935 and found that SA Gruppe Bayerische Ostmark Brigade 77 was a component of SA Brigade Bayerische Ostmark by that time- it must have been transferred from SA Gruppe Franken in late 1934 or early 1935.
I can also tell you that the German is absolutely correct and abbreviated in the way I would have expected a German to use at that period of time."
The ball is perfect. All four screws remain tightly intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The solid nickel crossguards look great! There is a Fr Gruppe stamp. The brown hardwood grip looks fine. There are some wee hits and marks as one expects on any such piece. The solid nickel eagle retains beautiful details and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel has a perfect fit and retains 100%+ of its enamel.
