2nd Pattern - Das Schnellbootkriegsabzeichen by C. Schwerin & Sohn of Berlin. The Fast Attack Craft War Badge was awarded to worthy individuals who had served in twelve combat engagements on fast attack craft or torpedo boats. Other special circumstances may grant the award as well. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been blackened, silver washed and gold gilded. The obverse features a large S-boat breaking through the sea below a kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a mobile cut-out swastika within its talons), which is all surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The full-back reverse of the badge is designer and maker marked: “Fec. W. E. Peekhaus Berlin Ausf. Schwerin Berlin 68”. It also displays a soldered on tombak; round plate flat wire catch, black hinge, soldered on round wire top hook and coke bottle pin. All of the components continue to work well. Nice silver wash, gilding, blackening and detail remain. It measures 2 1/8 inches wide by 2 3/8 inches tall. A great one by a desirable maker!
