This is a nice 1883 patterned WWII Imperial Japanese Naval officer dirk. This example is of wartime construction with machine made 8.25" blade as measured from the Habaki. The blade shows a age and gray with a couple scuffs. The proofed crossguard is polished brass. The grip is triple brass wire wrapped over imitation, (plastic)ray skin. All grip wire and fittings to include the brass cherry blossom on either side are intact and quite nice! The saya (scabbard) is leather covered wood with a decorative seam down the reverse. The surface is lacquered and shows some scuffs and age cracks. It could use some love to clean it up some. Both fittings have nice detail. The lock works perfectly.
