Well here a decent private purchase Police Bayonet. These later examples were NOT factory shortened as the early examples were. It retains a nice bright finish, has a perfect fit with just some wear towards the tip. The stamped "WKC" maker mark are all beautifully executed! The spine is marked "S8"The blade rates Exc++. The black (municipal) leather scabbard body looks good, I suspect that someone applied some show polish at some point. It has pressure marks and age crazing throughout yet retains all of its stitching. The four vertical lines running through it giving it that finishing touch of German detail! The early brass based nickel plated scalloped scabbard fittings look great as well! They have minor wear with no dents, 99% of the plating remains intact and they are both tightly secured with one staple each. Just while we are talking about the plating peek under the staples and you will see that they are benchmarked "16". The scabbard has a wee "S" stamped to the side. The scabbard snugly fits the hilt. The aluminum based hilt looks good! It depicts good detail throughout, with the oak leaves and acorns and highly detailed pommel eagle! The release button functions as it should. The spine of the hilt is stamped with "8" between the grip plates. The reverse of the crossguard is unmarked. The multi-toned stag grip plates are tightly secured with two aluminum rivets. The centrally placed copper/aluminum police eagle is properly pined and still shows nice detail! This insignia I normally associate with Police EM swords, but who knows, this is pinned so I must say it's always been that way. A great price for a good example of a municipal police bayonet.
