Here we have a unique Naval example of a Japanese (Variation O) Type 30 Bayonet by Matsushita Kinzoku KK Arsenal (National Denki). The Type 30 bayonet designed for the Japanese Army to be used with the Arisaka Type 30 Rifle and was later used on the Type 38 and Type 99 rifles. The 15 5/8 inch, blued, unfullered blade is a worn example with some oxidizing.I've not cleaned it. The stamped Matsushita Kinzoku KK Arsenal maker mark is beautifully executed! Much bluing remains. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is perfectly secured. The blade rates an Exc. The blade fits perfectly into the very unique tan colored rubberized composite scabbard. The scabbard sits perfectly against the steel based and blackened hilt. The crossguard is straight and has a 9/16 inch muzzle ring. The bird head's pommel has a well working button and is marked to the very top with characters along with the serial number "057" and an inspection stamp. The multi-toned contoured "wrap-around" wood grip plates are tightly secured by two rivets. They show the common pressure marks and continue to look good! The scabbard holds a double looped rubber frog! The loops are worn down to the canvas base and hang loose. All of the stitching and steel rivets remain intact. Truly a rare piece with a unique scabbard variation!
