Interesting Early NSKK Dagger by Haastert & Bull

This NSKK has a repainted scabbard and grip. I only see one every couple years and always try to pick them up. They were a result of misunderstanding of the new NSKK regulations when issued in 1936. The regulations required repainting the scabbards black but some NSKK groups also painted the grips! Some claim them to be Marine SA's but me, I'm not in that camp. The blade on this one is NM being clean with all crossgrain remaining. The "Alles für Deutschland" motto and rare maker mark look nice and black. The fit remains nice and tight. The only thing holding this back from being stone mint is a smudge towards the reverse tip. The steel based black enamel repainted scabbard has had a hard life. looks to me like the guy tried to pull the fittings off before repainting as was more of a blacksmith than a jeweler! He messed up the top fitting as it's shows some abuse. There were not screws in the top and I replaced them. It retains 90%+ paint coverage with an impression to the obverse you can feel with your fingers or by holding it just so in the light. The scabbard to crossguard fit is ok and closes with a snap! The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped with a rarer gau mark "He". The black painted hardwood grip is in good shape. It has minor pressure marks but no chips or cracks. About 95% of paint remains to the grip. The solid nickel eagle has nice detail and a good fit. The SA roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit! A fine piece at a great price!
