Model 1939 - Postschutz Dolch für Führer by Paul Weyersberg & Co. of Solingen. The whole piece is in its original state, with the exception of the blade that has been heavily cleaned and re-crossgrained. The acid etched oval “Paul Weyersberg & Co. Solingen” wreathed broad sword manufacturers marking remains visible. The tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Exc+. It shows several nicks to the edges. The black leather buffer pad remains 75% intact. The steel based, black enamel painted scabbard is in excellent condition. The scabbard body retains 98% of its paint coverage, with just the odd hit from the chain. The three nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings remain nice and bright. Typical surface scratches and slight plating loss. They are all tightly secured with all five original screws. The nickel-silver chain is complete ending at an early “Ges. Gesch OLC” marked clip. The spring in the clip has lost about 15% of its spring back. The scabbard sits perfectly up against the hilt. The crossguard and pommel are solid nickel silver and plated. The two enameled swastikas are in perfect condition. The bottom of the crossguard is stamped “DRP” (Deutsches Reichpost) and numbered “26”. I believe this is the earliest number I’ve encountered. The grip is boiled and died hardwood. It has several small holes to the obverse, along with some cracking to the base. This is very typical as the wood expands and contracts with humidity throughout the years. I’ve turned the pommel back a quarter turn to avoid any further strain on the wood. This leaves the hilt a bit lose and you can tighten this easily, should you wish. It has the properly pin on DRP eagle emblem to the front and center. Overall this is a great piece I’m sure you will be happy with!
