Army Officers Lion-head Sword by Eickhorn

Here we have an Army Officers Lion-head by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen (Wehrmacht Heer Säbel für Offiziere). The steel forged single edged, single fullered 32 inch long blade on this one looks good. The stamped “Original Eickhorn Solingen” 1935-1940maker mark is beautifully executed. The plating gives it a nice mirror like finish. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It has remnants of some cosmoline and could use some love with acetone to get the rest of it off. The steel based black enamel repainted scabbard looks good. It has good looking drag, ring, both throat retaining screws and it remains completely dent free! The scabbard body shows age minor paint loss yet it retains 98%+ coverage. The multi-piece hit is constructed out of die struck brass that has been gold gilded. The detail and hand enhancing throughout the national eagle crossguard, oak leaf motif and head is gorgeous! The inlayed red glass eyes a wonderful! The obverse languet features a set of crossed cannons. This is typical on the Imperial or Wiemar period and a bit unusual to see this late in production. Obviously there were some Army Officers who preferred not to sport a swas. The wood based bakelite covered grip is in perfect condition without chips or cracks. It is tightly wrapped in twisted triple wire wrap. A great piece you are sure to be pleased with!
