A double etch to an infantry unit! Beautiful blade on this one! It has a stunning etch and Eickhorn maker mark but on top of that it's distributor stamped to a distributor Peter Kolb located in Amburg no less! Perfect tip and solid fit! And you've got to love the detail to the eagles, oak leaves and banner reading: "Zur Erinnerung an Meine Dienstzeit" (In remembrance of my wartime service). Techet's excellent reference page 241 shows the long version of this item. But for you guys who check me against the books there is an error in the reference, in this case Ostmark has nothing to do with East Prussia. Ostmark in this case refers in general to the Bavarian area's eastern border regions The brown leather buffer pad remains intact. The black enamel painted scabbard looks good with age crazing. The paint coverage is better than 99%! It has a few scratches yet remains completely dent free! The plated hilt looks great with a nice bright finish and only a wee bit of plating loss 2" north of the obverse tip. The black checkered grip plates are perfect being secured with two steel rivets. This piece also comes with an early loose and crazed black frog! Truly a beautiful etch that would fit nicely into your collection!
