A Belgian World War 1 Remembrance Medal. This medal is constructed out of a die struck bronze base. The round obverse depicts a lion roaring on top of a rock with an arrow in its right shoulder. "1914-1915" is written on the rock right below the lion. Arching above is written "Verwond Maar Niet Verwonnen" and below is "Blesse Mais Non Vaincu". The first is Dutch and the second is French and they translate to "injured but not defeated". The reverse depicts a crowned shield displaying busts of Albert I and Elisabeth of Bavaria flanked by two rampant lions. In the background there is a line of soldiers on one knee with their rifles at aim and their commanding officer standing with his sword outstretched. Arched above is written "Voor Belgenland Ons Leven" and "Pour La Belgique Notre Vie". The first is Dutch and the second is French and they translate to "Our Life For Belguium". The top has a soldered on ball with a ring attached. The ribbon is missing. A nice medal for a good price!
