Flugzeugführer für Offiziere der Luftwaffe gestickte Ausführung - Type 4d. The Luftwaffe pilot badge was awarded upon completing flight training and received their license. The cloth variation of the pilot badge was authorized for wear on November 18th, 1935. It is constructed out of hand embroidered; rolled aluminum-silver wire-bullion and white and blue cotton thread stitched to a blue grey backing and white buckram backing. The obverse features a silvered centrally placed massive swooping Luftwaffe eagle with outstretched wings clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is above a half laurel leaf / half oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom and all lies on a blue grey base. This type correctly shows no berries or acorns present. The reverse displays the hand stitching and white backing. The obverse displays beautiful details throughout the eagle and wreath. It still has some threads to the exterior where it would have been stitched to the jacket. It measures 2 3/4 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches tall. Rare, stunning, crisp embroidered quality at its best!
