A 1st Pattern - Luftwaffe Koppelschloß. Instituted 1935. The buckle is constructed out of a two piece die struck aluminum alloy base that has been silver washed. The obverse features a centrally placed 1st pattern ‘droop tail’ Luftwaffe open winged eagle clutching a swastika in one of its talons, on top of an oval pebbled background, that is all encircled by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom and all lies on a pebbled rectangular backing. The reverse retains all four prongs holding the roundel inplace, an integral catch and an aluminum/brass pin/post sleeve assembly. It measures 2 7/16 inches wide by 1 7/8 inches high. Some calcification age to the end. Nice silver wash. A early buckle!
