Prison Official's Degan

The plated grosser sized blade on this one looks great! By grosser I mean it is not the fine blade we normally see with army swords, it's about 15% larger 22mm depth at the hilt as opposed to a std sword which is about 18mm. So this is not nothing. It means a specific scabbard size as well. It holds a nice mirror like finish with good plating. There is some speckles that hold it back some. and the tip and fit are both perfect! The blade is unmarked but the pattern is that of Clemen & Jung, so likely sold through a Uniform Shop. The blade rates Exc+. The finishing at the top is perfect and untampered with. The original brown leather buffer pad remains intact. The steel based, black enamel painted scabbard looks great. It shows minor age spidering and spots of paint loss throughout yet retains 87% of its original paint. It could use a good coat of shoe wax and a good polish. It continues to have both throat retaining screws and remains completely dent free! The scabbard to hilt fit is perfect. I absolutely love the design on these! Just look at the pommel eagle head with the guard coming out of its mouth! Sweet! The crossguard eagles are just superb too! The gilt aluminum hilt shows wear to the high areas from honest period use. The grip is made of aluminum base that has been black painted, which is not uncommon from C&J. About 95% paint coverage remains. The triple brass wire wrap is snugly fit. Nicely finishing this is a troddle. Not textbook but this is how it came. Truly a great sword whose owner wielded the power over life and death in the Reich!
