DeNazified Gold DRL Sports Badge
Here we have a Gold DRL (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen - German National Union for Physical Training). The gold grade DRL badge was awarded to men and women between the ages of 18-32 who passed the national fitness test for a total of seven consecutive years once the silver badge had been awarded or to individuals over 40 years of age who passed the test within 12 month period. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed "DRL" in silver stylized letters which is surrounded by a gold oak leaf wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon and swastika,(the swas has been removed). The reverse correctly displays a; soldered block hinge, soldered round wire catch and flat wire pin. It is also marked "DRGM 35269" and "Wernstein Jena". It continues to retain beautiful details and gilt! It measures approximately 1 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall. A rare piece!
