A Model 1934 - Schutzstaffel Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Gottlieb Hammesfahr of Solingen. E. Rohm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31st 1931 or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time (February 22 1934 - II Order Nr. 2869). 9900 were allocated for eligible members of the SS. After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated (July 4th 1934 - II Daily Record Nr. 7566). To have the full inscription was against Hitler’s command, making this dagger an incredibly rare and desirable piece in the collecting community…
The blade on this one looks good. The acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription (in its entirety), “Meine Ehere Heißt Treue” motto and “Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen” maker mark are all dark, crisp and beautifully executed! The crossgrain looks awesome against the light. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates an Exc++. It shows runner marks, along with age grey and spotting throughout. The steel based, black anodized scabbard looks great. It remains completely dent free and holds a nice dark finish. It has oxidization spotting throughout. Traces of the original factory lacquer remains. The scalloped solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings are in excellent condition. The ball has a pressure mark and 1mm split. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The solid nickel-silver crossguards match the scabbard fittings perfectly in color and patina. The reverse of the lower cross guard is district stamped “III” (Berlin – as all Hammesfahr Röhms should be). The black hardwood grip shows several cracks, bumps and chip flakes throughout. The solid nickel silver eagle retains beautiful detail and has a perfect fit. The SS runes retains 97%+ of its enamel and has perfect fit. An incredibly rare and desirable piece…
