A Transitional Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Hartkopf & Co. of Solingen 1938. The blade on this one is beautiful. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto, stamped “Hartkopf & Co. Solingen” and “RZM M.7/40/38” maker mark are all dark, crisp and beautifully executed. It has a solid fit and a perfect tip. The blade rates NM. It shows minor evidence of age grey, spotting and surface scratches throughout. Interesting to note you can see a faint “1938” likely written in pencil just above the “und”. The original black leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks good. It has been re-painted, potentially in the period. They also painted the sides of the leather. There are two small bumps to the back side. The folded over blackened leather strap retains all of its rivets and the snap continues to work well! The hilt is constructed out of a steel base that has been nickel-silver plated. The plating remains 90%+ intact. The two black checkered bakelite grip plates are in perfect condition and secured with two solid nickel-silver grip rivets. To the center obverse of the grip has a HJ diamond and retains 99%+ enamel. An excellent mottoed example!
