A Transitional Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Herbertz & Meurer of Solingen. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto, stamped “Herbertz & Meurer Solingen” maker mark and “Ges. Geschutzt.” patent mark look good. It has a solid fit and a perfect tip. The blade rates Exc+. It shows heavy age grey, spotting and surface scratches along with some roughness to the cutting edge. The leather buffer pad is lost to time. The steel based black anodized scabbard looks good. It shows some oxidization areas and remains dent free. The leather is heavily crazed and deteriorating. Some leather conditioner would help. All of its rivets are intact and the snap continues to work well! The hilt is constructed out of a steel base that has been nickel-silver plated. The majority of the plating remains intact. The two-black checkered bakelite grip plates are in great condition and secured with two solid nickel-silver grip rivets. There is one wee diamond chip out of the front base. To the center obverse of the grip has a HJ diamond and retains 99%+ enamel. A solid earlier mottoed example!
