Early Hammesfahr SS Dagger

Here we have an early Model 1933 SS Dagger (Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch) by G. Hammesfahr of Solingen. A nice example with a Vertical hanger. The acid etched "Meine Ehere Heisst Treue" motto and "Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen" maker mark are correctly executed. The blade has been cleaned and there is evidence of spotting throughout. The etch is somewhat lightened. The fit continues to remain solid! The blade rates in at Exc+ with some age a gray. The steel based, black anodized scabbard looks great! There is a hit 2" south of the reverse below the vertical hanger. It retains about 15% of it's factory lacquer. The lower fitting has been replaced with a plated one as opposed to solid nickel. I had to check with a magnet to be sure. The ball is perfect. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The solid nickel crossguards look excellent as well. They match the scabbard fittings in color and condition. The reverse of the lower crossguard is marked "III" (Berlin). The crossguards to grip fits are perfect! The dyed black hardwood grip has been post-war repaired. As with so many of these SS grips this one chipped and has been repaired with by a professional. It appears to be they fixed a chip to the upper and lower obverse right corners and to the left edge. There is a bit of a hint of a reddish look to the wood. If you take this outside and hold it in the sun you can find this. Ok, so I say all this and most would never see this. I know so I of course share it. The solid nickel eagle has a perfect fit and retains beautiful detail! The SS runes retain 99% enamel and it has perfect fit. Completing this is an Assmann marked vertical hanger. If you remove it you will find it's RZM marked to the underside. Please don't, that's how these straps break.
