Restored SS Dagger by Carl Eickhorn

A Model 1933 Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This would have been manufactured among the earliest SS daggers. The blade on this one is very nice! The acid etched "Meine Ehre Heißt Treue" motto and large double oval "C.E. Carl Eickhorn Solingen" maker mark are both crisp and beautifully executed! They provide a wonderful contrast to the bright blade. The fit and tip are both perfect. There are some scuffs on the motto and most of the grain has been polished out. The blade rates Exc+/Exc++. The scabbard is steel based and black anodized, a bit of factory lacquer remains to the upper reverse leading me to believe this was worn with a vertical at some point. I think someone touched up the finish with some chemical blue at some point. There are water droplet stains and some small hits 2 inches south of the upper obverse fitting. The nickel silver based scalloped scabbard fittings look good. The ball has a good hit and all scabbard screws remain intact. The scabbard fit is perfect and closes with a snap. The nickel silver based hand chased crossguards look excellent matching the scabbard fittings in color and patina. The lower side is bench marked "8" as you often see on these early Eickhorn's. The reverse of the lower fitting is district stamped "I" (Munich). The grip has been restored. As most of you know these early Eickhorn grips are very susceptible to flaking, chips and cracks. A professional has restored this one and it is now chip and crack free. Looks very good too. The nickel silver based eagle is crisp, wonderfully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 100% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit! An early piece with a desired maker mark.
